On yesterday’s episode of “The Rush Limbaugh Show,” the right-wing icon used the firestorm surrounding Obama’s chief of staff as cover to blast liberal activists as “retards,” and suggest a “retard summit” is in the offing at the White House.

The embattled Emanuel sat down yesterday afternoon at the White House with a group of advocates for the disabled to apologize for hurling the phrase “f—ing retarded” during a closed-door strategy session in August.

The slur, reported last week, was thrust in the spotlight after Sarah Palin called for Rahm to be fired in a Facebook post.

Palin, whose son has Downs syndrome, likened Rahm’s expletive to use of the N-word.

The Republican National Committee shelled out $1.4 million dollars over the last six months for Web sites and services, much of which was spent on GOP.com, the party’s major Web presence that was unveiled this month, new Federal Election Commission expense reports show.

The figure is far higher than what experts estimate it should have cost, and five times the amount its Democratic counterpart spent to host and maintain Democrats.org.

The biggest disparity seems to be bandwidth costs–the RNC paid Smartech Corp., a Republican-focused hosting firm, more than a million dollars, plus $22,000 to Eloqua, compared to the DNC’s $203,000 to Sprint, Switch and Data and Servint Corp.–despite the fact that the two sites’ traffic, which determines bandwidth usage and, largely, web hosting costs, was the same.

Sen. John McCain reacted to President Obama’s pick of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court by reminding his audience that “elections have consequences.”
Sen. McCain said he most likely would not have nominated Judge Sotomayor had he won the presidential election last November.

“I committed to nominating people to the US Supreme Court and other courts if I had been elected, and they were what they call strict constitutionalists, who strictly adhere to the Constitution. Justice Sotomayor may be qualified and we will examine that, but I think I would not have nominated her,” McCain said during an interview this morning on KQTH FM in Tucson, Arizona.

And perhaps undermining a key Republican line of attack on Judge Sotomayor, Sen. McCain said it will be the examination of her legal opinions as a sitting judge — not her words before public audiences — to which he will give the most weight when considering her nomination.

During his presidential campaign, Barack Obama declared that, “lobbyists won’t find a job in my White House.” Now President Obama takes a different view of lobbyists.

The Senate is expected soon to approve anti-tobacco lobbyist William Corr for the second-highest post at the Department of Health and Human Services. He is the former executive director of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and, until recently, a registered lobbyist.

The Obama team has said Mr. Corr will recuse himself from tobacco-related matters. Sure. Mr. Corr’s former group received $3.3 million over the past five years from pharmaceutical companies, according to the Wall Street Journal. Some of those firms profit from nicotine gum, patches and other smoking-cessation aids.

Although the Neighborhood Ball, an event held for Barack Obama, got beat by “American Idol” last night in the TV ratings it was definitely the hottest of all official inaugural events by far.

Beyonce, Jay Z, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Sting and Stevie Wonder were among the many performers who wowed the 2,000 plus crowd of Washington D.C. residents and former campaign workers for Obama.

Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Denzel Washington also added lots of star power from Hollywood by introducing segments and hanging out backstage. Leonardo brought his dad along, who videotaped with his minicam the acrobat troupe forming a human pyramid. Actor Denzel Washington used a big freight elevator to get to the stage and was accompanied by a gospel choir who sang to him. They asked him if he could sing. He laughed and said not me. My wife is the one who can sing. No one wants to hear me.
